putt putman
I first met Putt not many months after moving to the area 2 years ago and over that time I have had the pleasure of chatting with him on several occasions. He is as genuine as they come and to be honest, I knew the moment that the SUPPORT CITY idea began that he would be someone that would end up being highlighted. And sure enough, it didn’t take long for me to learn of something that he had on the horizon that explains exactly the type of guy that he works to be.
Birthdays are the epitome of celebrating us. That’s the whole point, right? Heck in my family, the phrases “birthday week” and “birthday month” even get thrown around by the coming celebrant. They usually hint around for days (weeks is more like it) for what they would like to receive. They’ll get cards, gifts, and even parties, especially when it is a milestone birthday like 13, 16, 18, 21, 30, 40, 50 etc. It’s fun to celebrate someone you love, you care for, you admire, or is family or a friend.
Thursday, November 21st, 2019 is the day that Michael “Putt” Putman turns 40 years old. And you know how he wants to celebrate? By doing something that brings him joy. He is inviting all of his friends and family (and you!) to join him in doing something kind for others, a little something called “Laundry Love.” This idea is a local mission that he contributes to and has already participated in on many occasions. They simply go to laundry mats and feed the machines with quarters, no strings attached. “It is the most fulfilling feeling to see the look of relief on people’s faces…” Putt stated. “I’ve had several people tell me that they can now buy their children new shoes or school supplies.” A few hours out of the day that not only let you help some local folks out, but get to meet and chat with them as well. How awesome is that? A little idea that makes an instant impact.
Originally from Springhill, Louisiana, Putt along with his wife Sarah, their son Miles and daughter Louie call Shreveport home. We are fortunate to have them. Read below to learn a little bit more about them.
1. What is your secret (or not so secret) talent? Drums. I enjoy listening more than playing though.
2. What is your favorite all time movie? Tommy Boy.
3. What is the best thing about where you live? My church, my family, and my friends. Also love the food.
4. People circle around and you pick the song, what is it and what’s your go-to dance move? “Blame it on the rain” by Milli Vanilli and I’d do the water sprinkler.
5. When is the last time that you laughed until you cried? with my son watching Black Sheep. Last month he and I watched a ton of Chris Farley and Jim Carey stuff.
6. Which word or phrase do you over use? “You know what I’m saying…”
7. Which living person would you like to high five? Justin Haigler. Even though I have, I like to do it every chance that I get. He loves on people better than most. So inspiring.
8. What advice would you give the younger you? Save more money! Haha!
9. What is your motto? Try not to make the same mistake twice
10. Tell us why you choose kindness? Serving others gives me fulfillment more than any other thing that I do. It started with a mission trip to Honduras drilling water wells. As we drill a well from start to finish, the love the community gives back through cooking for us and serving us is indescribable. We go down to help and to serve, but end up receiving a bigger blessing.
