the reason why
It all started when…
Two years ago my family and I arrived as new residents to the city of Shreveport. The move was not easy for a boy with deep south Louisiana roots, but like a lot of guys that I have met in the past couple years, that something in common we have, is a very persuasive wife.
Being new to a city presented a clean slate for opinions and experiences. It allowed for fresh and unbiased perspectives on what's happening. What's going on now? What's the pulse? What's the future? The past never really played a part in the development of opinions because I wasn't here to see it or be affected by it. Sure, it probably also inherently provided a somewhat unbalanced optimistic opinion, but heck, is there really harm in that?!
I hadn't ever thought of "moving" in that way before. It had always presented itself as what was being left behind and not as what was present in the new location. This city, this community, and its people changed my previous notions. From outside looking in, my family felt the winds of change occurring here, and we made the decision to move.
I come from a place where the "southern hospitality" reputation is extremely strong. Without a doubt in mind, our city rivals it. This community is full of kind and welcoming people that I feel so fortunate to get to meet, hear, and see their remarkable stories unfold everyday.
We are our past, but we are our future too. It is residents like these featured that will make our city evolve into whatever it is meant to be. These columns at their purest are simply my little way of tipping my cap to those doing good spirited and kind things in our city which may motivate us to do these types of things as well. They are the inspiration behind the SUPPORT CITY idea. Lets celebrate them.
HOW do you support?
It’s as easy as buying a shirt. The SUPPORT CITY T-shirts are for sale at L.E. & CHALK located at 724 Azalea Drive in Shreveport, LA. Stop in or call in, they will make it happen.
HOW will this work?
Every month we will feature a new person and all the proceeds from the purchased shirts will go to the non-profit of their choice.
