Meghan Awalt

Meghan has a largely contagious positive and genuine persona about her, but don't for one second think that is the only way that she evokes a smile. The day job = florist, but she uses her talents to make other's days brighter in many many ways. More on that in a bit...

She has lived in other places (Forest Hill, Ruston, and Austin) but she and her husband deep down fell in love with Shreveport and are happy to call it home. Their 2 pups, Lilly & Rascal, call it home as well. She has collected some interesting things such as vintage hankies, dishes (which she grinningly acknowledges was one that took up some serious space), and now vintage flower frogs (which I had no clue what that was until an explanation).

I first noticed her kind gestures early on in her flower endevours when every Friday she would give out flowers to random people across the town. A local business, a lady pumping gas, a gentlemen walking his dog. Then just recently, with permission from Bob and Danielle Thames, she took the flowers from their Saturday wedding day, to a cooler, back to her shop to rearrange them on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday delivered them to a local nursing home to brighten their day. Awesome right?!

When put on the spot, she chose silly, aesthete, sentimental, distractable, and steady as 5 words to describe herself and I could't agree more. See below to learn a few more interesting facts about her.

1. What is your secret (or not so secret) talent? I can sing and hear harmonies. My singing voice is just okay - no bragging here. But I do like to bust a harmony out and surprise people now and again.

2. If you could have 1 super power what would it be? Teleporting ! I get so bored in the car and could save so much time if I could just snap my fingers and be at my next location!

3. Describe your perfect day. Being outdoors on a fall day (with no responsibilities or schedule) with my husband and pups - preferably at a dog friendly restaurant trying new foods and sipping on a cold one :) oh and maybe throw a trip to the masseuse in there somewhere .

4. People start circling around and you must dance, what is your go to move? Oh boy. I have two left feet . So lots of arms flailing probably.

5. When is the last time that you laughed until you cried? Within the last week or so.... Watching “John Mullaney” standup on Netflix .

6. Which word or phrase do you over use? “Absolutely!”

7. Which living person would you like to high five? Jen Sincero - author of “you are a badass”

8. Which living person would you like to shake their hand? Iris Apfel 💕 fashionista GOALS.

9. What inspires you? I pull inspiration from colors and textures found in nature - whether that be from physically being outside - or through photographs. Im definitely inspired by a change in seasons. I also love traveling to new places and being immersed in the different landscapes and cultures there . I remember going to New Orleans and watching a Hindu parade in the French Quarter . I shed tears seeing their smiling faces as they danced and chanted and sang and laughed. There was a language barrier but the actual human connection I witnessed was so beautiful and unforgettable.

10. Tell us why you choose kindness? I choose kindness because I feel that I have a responsibility to do so. Being kind comes natural to me. I feel like that is truly a gift - not something I achieved or earned on my own. I try to live my life with my heart open to the needs of others , and to my own needs and self growth. Sharing love and beauty with people through my “work” is such an honor and a privilege to me. Flowers accompany some of life’s most precious and sacred moments and I don’t take that lightly .
